Job Summary Assists the surgical team in the preparation of surgical procedures in the operating room under the supervision of the organizational preceptor. Prepares surgical cases by creating and maintaining a sterile field, retracting and passing instruments, supplies and medications to surgeons during cases in the operating room under the supervision of the organizational preceptor. Performs a variety of technical skills, including the maintenance of supplies under the supervision of the organizational preceptor. Ensures quality of patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly monitoring the maintenance of the sterile field under the supervision of the organizational preceptor. Job Requirements Education and Work Experience: High School Education/GED or equivalent: RequiredAssociate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: PreferredOperating room experience and/or training course: Preferred Licenses/Certifications Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: RequiredSurgery Technician certification: Highly recommended after completing required clinical hours Essential Functions Prepares for each surgical case by accurately checking required supplies and equipment prior to case under the supervision of the organizational preceptor. Assembles appropriate supplies/equipment prior to operative procedures under the supervision of the organizational preceptor.Reviews equipment inventory for specialty as assigned under the supervision of the organizational preceptor. Sets up operative instrumentation/sterile field for expedient retrieval/utilization under the supervision of the organizational preceptor.Collects data on assigned surgical cases by the unit based Performance Standards of Care under the supervision of the organizational preceptor. Cleans equipment and facilities as necessary under the supervision of the organizational preceptor. Performs housekeeping duties as requested.Completes instrument, sponge, needle and blade counts with the Registered Nurse (RN) according to established standards under the supervision of the organizational preceptor.Sets up/maintains neat and orderly sterile field demonstrating careful attention to aseptic technique under the supervision of the organizational preceptor. Labels solutions according to established standards under the supervision of the organizational preceptor.Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
