Surgical Technician (Open Heart Surgery, Day Shift, Full-Time)

Responsibilities

  • Follow all organizational policies, procedures, and attendance standards.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient and organizational records (HIPAA standards).
  • Stay updated with training, in-services, and new surgical practices.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff to ensure continuity of care.
  • Provide culturally sensitive and age-appropriate care.
  • Participate in pre-operative briefings and patient safety time-outs.
  • Prepare and set up surgical procedures based on knowledge of each case.
  • Maintain sterile technique, sterile packs, and supplies.
  • Anticipate surgical team needs during procedures.
  • Assist with correct patient positioning and transfers.
  • Handle instruments, equipment, and supplies safely and efficiently.
  • Support emergency measures during surgical procedures.
  • Assist with case cart preparation, restocking, and supply reordering.
  • Help with operating room turnovers, light housekeeping, and reprocessing instruments.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required at hire).
  • Surgical Technologist Certificate (required at hire).
  • Experience in open heart or cardiovascular surgery.
  • Knowledge of sterile techniques, operating room procedures, and sterile core area.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of scrubbing experience in inpatient or ambulatory operating rooms.
  • Ability to rotate through sterile core areas.
  • Experience with cleaning, reprocessing instruments, and supply management.
