Responsibilities
- Follow all organizational policies, procedures, and attendance standards.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient and organizational records (HIPAA standards).
- Stay updated with training, in-services, and new surgical practices.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff to ensure continuity of care.
- Provide culturally sensitive and age-appropriate care.
- Participate in pre-operative briefings and patient safety time-outs.
- Prepare and set up surgical procedures based on knowledge of each case.
- Maintain sterile technique, sterile packs, and supplies.
- Anticipate surgical team needs during procedures.
- Assist with correct patient positioning and transfers.
- Handle instruments, equipment, and supplies safely and efficiently.
- Support emergency measures during surgical procedures.
- Assist with case cart preparation, restocking, and supply reordering.
- Help with operating room turnovers, light housekeeping, and reprocessing instruments.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required at hire).
- Surgical Technologist Certificate (required at hire).
- Experience in open heart or cardiovascular surgery.
- Knowledge of sterile techniques, operating room procedures, and sterile core area.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2–5 years of scrubbing experience in inpatient or ambulatory operating rooms.
- Ability to rotate through sterile core areas.
- Experience with cleaning, reprocessing instruments, and supply management.
