About the role

The Surgical Technician I works in the East Campus OR, caring for patients undergoing various surgical procedures including Gynecology, General, Urology, Robotics, Oncology, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Plastic, and Interventional Pulmonology. Staff work flexible shifts, covering call, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares the operating room and gathers supplies before a surgical procedure.
  • Monitors the sterile field during the intraoperative phase, providing necessary instruments and supplies.
  • Passes supplies, equipment, or instruments as directed, sponges or suctions an operative site, prepares and cuts suture material, transfers fluids, and assists in counting supplies and instruments.
  • Recognizes and reports situations that impede patient safety, maintains patient privacy and confidentiality, and facilitates efficient turnover times.
  • Safeguards the privacy of patients and maintains confidentiality relating to patients.
  • Facilitates efficient turnover time by prioritizing activities related to equipment and instrumentation needed for cases to follow in assigned rooms.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Certificate 1 Basic Life Support required.
  • Surgical Technologist Certification (CST) required within 1 year of date of hire.
  • 0-1 years related work experience required.
  • Graduate of an accredited education program for surgical technologists or has completed a training program for surgical technologists in the United States Military or Public Health Service.
  • Holds and maintains a certified surgical technologist credential administered by a nationally recognized surgical technologist credentialing body accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies and recognized by the American College of Surgeons and the Association of Surgical Technologists.
  • Basic familiarity with computers and ability to navigate web-based applications.

Qualifications

Pay

The pay range listed for this position is $36.50 - $54.24 per hour. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, including seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.

Schedule

Staff work 8, 10 or 12 hour shifts and cover call on off-shifts, weekends and holidays.
