Surgical Technician 1

The Surgical Technician 1 independently performs a full range of perioperative duties at the journey level, supporting surgical teams while maintaining strict adherence to aseptic technique and patient safety standards. The incumbent is responsible for preparing and maintaining the sterile field, ensuring proper instrument sterilization, and anticipating surgeon needs throughout procedures. This role includes the authority to identify and halt procedures when sterile technique or patient safety is compromised, providing guidance to correct issues before continuing. The Surgical Technician also assists with patient preparation, intraoperative support, and post-procedure turnover, contributing to efficient and safe surgical operations.

Surgical Technician 2

The Surgical Technician 2 independently performs the full range of perioperative duties while ensuring strict adherence to aseptic technique and maintaining patient safety in a high-risk surgical environment. The incumbent serves as a subject matter expert and team leader in one or more specialty areas, providing training, mentorship, and precepting to staff while supporting complex surgical procedures. This role includes the authority to identify breaks in sterile technique, halt procedures, and direct corrective actions to protect patient safety. The Advanced Surgical Technician also contributes to operational and clinical improvement through participation in education, process improvement initiatives, policy development, and equipment and supply decision-making.

Minimum Qualifications

• Surgical Technician 1:
  • Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Experience: One (1) year of surgical technician experience that included working in service areas such as: general surgery, gynecology, otolaryngology (ENT), urology, orthopedics.
  • Preferred Experience: Experience in obstetrics, endoscopy, or ophthalmology
  • Substitution: Completion of an accredited surgical technician, surgical technologist, or internal technician program
  • Certification(s): BLS within three months of hire
• Surgical Technician 2:
  • Education: High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • Experience: Two (2) years of surgical technician experience that included working in service areas such as: general surgery, gynecology, otolaryngology (ENT), urology, orthopedics.
  • Preferred Experience: Experience in obstetrics, endoscopy, or ophthalmology
  • Substitution: Completion of an accredited surgical technician or surgical technologist program
  • Certification(s): Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Pay Information

• Internal Hires: Pay rate will be determined based on applicable personnel rule or union contract terms.
• External Hires: Step placement and rate of pay will be determined based upon relevant experience.
• Surgical Tech 1 starts at $29.96 per hour.
• Surgical Tech 2 starts at $35.39 per hour.
