About the Role
Works under the supervision of the Surgery Services Director and OR Manager. Completes an online didactic curriculum, modules, and clinicals as directed by the OR Manager. Serves as the primary scrub person, handling instruments, supplies, and equipment during surgical procedures while maintaining the sterile field.
Responsibilities
- Scrubs all surgical services provided at the facility once trained.
- Identifies and prepares physician preferences for surgical supplies, equipment, and instruments for each case.
- Maintains principles of aseptic technique during surgical procedures.
- Performs technical skills in accordance with hospital policy and procedure.
- Provides service excellence to all customers, including patients, families, physicians, and staff.
- Maintains professional standards related to clinical practice, staffing, and continuing education.
- Practices fiscal responsibility and accountability.
- Maintains a clean and safe environment in the operating room.
- Performs proper sterilization techniques on instruments and equipment.
- Adheres to Surgical Services Patient Focused Code of Conduct.
- Complies with the hospital’s Corporate Compliance Program, including the Code of Conduct, laws, regulations, and policies.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must be free from governmental sanctions involving health care and/or financial practices.
- Must complete NCCT Tech in Surgery (CST) certification within 6 months of employment.
- Certifications required: CPR (see hospital policies for additional certifications such as ACLS, PALS, or CPI as applicable).
- Ability to maintain continuing education requirements and certifications/licenses.
- Strict adherence to the ethical code of the respective discipline for licensed professionals.
Qualifications
- CNA, MA, or any relevant healthcare experience preferred.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously with frequent interruptions, including emergency situations during high-risk procedures.
- Strong analytical and reasoning skills with a high level of mental concentration and memory.
- Ability to develop positive interactions and solve complex problems professionally under stress.
- Ability to think quickly, prioritize tasks, and handle various projects with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Computer proficiency, including the ability to enter data into electronic records and operate standard office equipment (fax, copier, etc.).
- Demonstrated knowledge of developmental stages and ability to apply theories/concepts when planning and implementing care for patients of all ages (infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric).
- Ability to maintain current knowledge and skills relevant to patient care across all age groups.
