About the Role
Service Line Leader ensures and delivers high quality, patient-centered care, and coordination of all functions in the service line. The role involves collaboration with staff members, management, vendors, Materials Management, Sterile Processing, physicians, and physician representatives to serve as a resource and model the organization’s vision, mission, and values for an unparalleled patient experience and clinical outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Collaborates with surgeon(s) to coordinate, evaluate, and customize service line needs to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care.
- Ensures preparations for specialty procedures by reviewing the schedule in advance, verifying accuracy (time allotted, procedure name, and special considerations).
- Ensures compliance with all policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
- Oversees equipment maintenance according to regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Creates and updates service line preference cards for accuracy, completeness, and charge capture.
- Aligns knowledge, skill, and expertise of perioperative personnel to enhance surgical specialty capabilities.
- Arranges and orders supplies/equipment for upcoming procedures and provides in-services to colleagues.
- Develops educational tools (e.g., reference guides, videos) for service line procedures or equipment.
- Coordinates with the Perioperative Nurse Educator and Nurse Manager to arrange staff in-service education.
- Balances unit staffing needs with service line responsibilities in collaboration with the management team.
- Serves as a resource for staff members in the service line.
- Works with surgeons, colleagues, and vendors to provide feedback and training for service line performance.
- Leads in a way that inspires commitment to the organization’s vision, mission, and values.
- Collaborates with surgeons during their onboarding process and continually thereafter.
- Acts as a preceptor for new hires and students regarding service line procedures and equipment.
- Supports physician partnership.
- Provides insights and suggestions for operational and capital purchases related to the service line.
- Identifies opportunities for improvement in volume, efficiency, cost, and safety.
- Supports proper inventory control and assists with managing supplies and equipment.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in an operating room environment.
- Surgical Tech certification required.
- Proficient in creating and updating preference cards for the designated service line.
- Completion of specialty training for the service line.
- Completion of performance and knowledge validation for the service line.
- Endorsement by surgeon(s) and perioperative leadership.
Unit-Specific Competencies
Will be provided during orientation to the unit.
