Surgical Tech Certified

About the role

As our Certified Surgical Tech, you will work under the supervision of the surgeon and RN, bringing your certified expertise to keep the operating room organized, sterile, and ready for safe, efficient surgical procedures. The Surgery Department at Penrose Hospital has 16 OR suites and performs 30 – 40 cases per day, specializing in heart, vascular, general, gynecology, urology, ortho, spine, neuro, plastics, robotics, and trauma procedures on adult patients only. The department's mission is to provide the best possible patient care, with a culture of teamwork and CNOR certification pay.

Responsibilities

• Arrange and inventory sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgical cases.
• Pass items to surgeons and nurses as needed throughout the procedure.
• Assist in preparing and moving patients.
• Sterilize and clean instruments, equipment, and rooms between cases.
• Maintain highest standard of sterile technique during procedure by checking package integrity, indicators and opening procedures.
• Perform appropriate counts with circulator prior to operation, before incision is closed and as needed.
• Prepare back table and mayo stand anticipating needs of the surgeon and through the use of the surgeon’s preference card.
• Set up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedure.
• Provide on-call coverage outside of standard scheduled hours per department and/or facility policy.
• Anticipate possible problems or complications that could arise during case.
• Adjust quickly and prepare for emergent cases that change workflow.

Requirements

• High School Diploma/G.E.D.
• Completion of an approved Surgical Technician program.
• Current Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association.
• Current registration with the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) as a surgical technologist for associates working in Colorado.
• Certification in Surgical Technology from the National Board Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or Certification as a Tech in Surgery from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).

Qualifications

• One (1) year of experience in a surgical setting (preferred).
• Experience in a specialty field (preferred).

Skills

• Strong attention to detail.
• Solid knowledge of sterile technique.
• Ability to stay calm and communicate effectively as part of a fast‑paced surgical team.

Benefits

• $10,000 sign‑on bonus for new hires who meet eligibility requirements.

Pay

$28.80 - $47.52 per hour.

Schedule

On‑call coverage outside of standard scheduled hours as required by department and/or facility policy.
