About the role
Surgical Technologists prepare operating rooms, assist during surgeries, and ensure sterile technique.
Responsibilities
- Prepare surgical supplies, equipment, and instruments, review surgeon preferences, and establish sterile fields.
- Assist surgeons as a second assistant, including draping, exposure, and handling instruments.
- Support with specimen handling, medication mixing, patient positioning, and equipment maintenance.
- Participate in room turnover, supply management, and unit operations to enhance departmental efficiency.
- Mentor new staff, ensure competency compliance, and collaborate with team members.
Qualifications & Skills
- High school diploma or GED; BLS certification required; ST certification preferred.
- Completion of accredited surgical technologist program or equivalent military training, or 10+ years' experience.
- Ability to anticipate surgeon needs, demonstrate critical thinking, and work independently in complex cases.
- Knowledge of sterile techniques, surgical procedures, and OR protocols.
Restrictions
- Cannot perform invasive procedures, administer medications, set up IVs, or operate cautery equipment.
- Must adhere to safety and competency standards.
