Surgical Srvcs Patient Liaison
About the role
The Surgical Services Patient Liaison serves as the frontline representative between surgery patients, family members, medical staff, surgeons, and hospital support staff to ensure services provided on the day of the patient’s surgery are correct based on identified patient care orders. This role coordinates the needs and overall coordination of care efficiently and in a timely manner to prepare the patient for surgery without delay. The liaison also assists the patient’s family members with technical assistance and provides patient status updates while surgery is in progress.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for surgery patients and their families on the day of surgery.
- Coordinate communication between patients, families, surgeons, anesthesia, nursing, and support staff to ensure all care orders and preparations are completed accurately and without delay.
- Provide real-time updates to families during surgery.
- Offer basic technical assistance and guide families through hospital processes.
Requirements
- Associate degree in business administration or a related field. A high school diploma/GED equivalent and additional relevant administrative work experience can be considered on a year-for-year basis in lieu of the degree requirement.
- Minimum of three (3) years of administrative work experience, preferably in a hospital or outpatient healthcare setting.
- Basic Life Support/CPR (BLS/CPR) certification, to be obtained within thirty (30) days of hire/transfer date.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic understanding of medical terminology.
- Basic working knowledge of commonly known computer applications, such as Microsoft Office.
- Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently without direct supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to perform public speaking when needed.
Schedule
2nd shift, Monday through Friday, 11:00 AM to 7:30 PM, with occasional weekend coverage.
Pay
Hourly rate is determined by years of experience and internal equity within the organization. Minimum starting rate is $17.35, with a maximum salary range of $23.60.
