Summary

Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, reassessment and documentation of care for patients undergoing surgery, outpatient and inpatient care as well. The Registered Nurse provides care to patients in developmental stages ranging from newborn to geriatrics. The Registered Nurse bears full and ultimate responsibility for the quality of the nursing care he or she provides to individuals.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a comprehensive patient assessment to identify patient needs.
  • Performs testing, care and interventions specific to each patient and needs.
  • Develops and implements a comprehensive, individualized plan of care.
  • Protect the patient from injury caused by chemical, laser, positioning, thermal sources and extraneous objects.
  • Manage the patient’s specimens appropriately.
  • Administer medications appropriately.
  • Perform interventions to protect the patient from infection.
  • Perform interventions to maintain the patient’s normothermia throughout the perioperative period.
  • Perform interventions to maintain the patient’s base-line physical status.
  • Provide culturally competent, age-appropriate, ethical care within scope of practice.
  • Protect the patient’s rights and dignity.
  • Preoperative and postoperative care of the patient.
  • Cross training to circulate and scrub cases as needed.
  • Cross training in the PACU/recovery room nurse role.
  • Cross training in the outpatient testing areas.
  • Cross training throughout departments to assist with day to day needs of the facility.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current, unrestricted New York State registered professional nursing license.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Knowledge and training for providing care to patients from pediatrics to geriatrics.
  • Basic nursing skills with added education surgical procedures and surgical procedures being performed.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of anesthetic agents and basic understanding of the various stages of anesthesia from induction through recovery.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Bachelor of Science from an accredited school of nursing.
  • National certification in a nursing specialty (AORN).
  • Good communication and computer skills and an independent, critical thinker with good assessment skills.
  • PALS certification.
  • Previous Ambulatory Surgery/Operating Room experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Bachelor of Science from an accredited school of nursing.
  • National certification in a nursing specialty (AORN).
  • Good communication and computer skills and an independent, critical thinker with good assessment skills.
  • PALS certification.

Physical Requirements

Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.

Pay Range

$42.03 - $57.45

Not all per diem roles are union eligible.
