Surgeries Scheduling
The Surgical Scheduler is responsible for coordinating the scheduling of surgical procedures for assigned surgeons, as well as providing patients with necessary information and ensuring proper pre- and post-operative appointments.
- Discuss and coordinate surgical dates with patients/families based on the surgeon’s schedule.
- Inform patients about cardiac and medical clearance, pre-operative and post-operative appointments, and pre-surgical history and physicals.
- Complete necessary forms related to surgery scheduling and prepare weekly OR schedules.
- Contact equipment and instrumentation representatives as needed and notify the surgical assistant of any changes.
- Communicate with insurance carriers for pre-certification and benefit verification, especially for Workers' Compensation Plans.
- Advise patients about self-pay arrangements and verify payment arrangements with the business office.
Surgical Pre-certification/Verification of Benefits
This position involves initiating requests for insurance plan referrals and obtaining pre-certification and benefit verification for various types of insurance plans.
- Work with insurance carriers to secure authorization for surgeries, especially for Workers' Compensation Plans.
- Fax clinical notes and/or test results to claim adjustors.
- Advise patients about self-pay arrangements and ensure payment arrangements are made.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED, with at least one year of medical office experience, preferably with electronic medical records.
- Associates degree preferred.
- No certifications or licenses required.
- One year of medical office experience.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, practice management, and EHR systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
- Physical demands: stand or sit for extended periods.
