Surgical Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - Night Shift

About the Role

Night shift position to provide acute inpatient care and perform selective medical services under the direction of practice physicians.

Responsibilities

• Obtain thorough medical history and physical examinations, as well as perform daily assessments.
• Record findings of examinations, assessments, and plan of care in H&P, consults, or discharge summaries.
• Perform a wide range of surgical and/or medical procedures.
• Write appropriate prescriptions and administer medications required for procedures.
• Order and interpret laboratory and radiology examinations.
• Determine treatment plan for patient.
• Demonstrate appropriate critical thinking, interpersonal skills, and the ability to prioritize and concentrate.
• Act as a patient advocate for the population served.
• Attend, participate, and contribute to group/practice meetings and development of policies and procedures when requested.
• Complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing.
• Deliver remarkable patient experience in every dimension, every time.
• Cover rotating day shifts and in-house weekend and holiday coverage.
• Train for work in the operating room for coverage needs and Mass Casualty Incidents (MCI) when needed.
• Perform general surgery/trauma surgery skills, including but not limited to:
  • Laceration repair
  • Incision and drainage (I&D) of abscesses and wounds
  • Punch biopsies
  • Vascular access and tube placements
  • Occasional first assist duties in the OR

Requirements

• Master’s of Physician Assistant Studies, Master’s of Nurse Practitioner, or similar degree conferred by an accredited program (e.g., NCCPA and ARC-PA).
• ACNP, AGACNP, PNP-AC, NNP board certification or similar Acute Care board certification required.
• Two years of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider (APP).
• Experience in orthopedics, general or other surgical subspecialty, emergency/inpatient medicine, or comparable experience preferred.
• Current NP or PA license in the appropriate state, registry required with state medical board.
• Current DEA registry or eligible for DEA.
• ACLS and BLS certification required.
• ATLS to be completed after hire.
