Surgical Coordinator - Spinal Medicine and Surgery - Physician Practice

Responsibilities

• Covers all aspects of tests, procedures, and surgeries under the direction of supervisors and physicians.
• Schedules procedures promptly and ensures proper equipment is ordered for surgeries.
• Verifies patient demographics and logs insurance information, obtaining precertification from payers.
• Coordinates appointments with physicians' calendars and adjusts schedules as necessary.
• Communicates appointment and surgical preparation information to patients.
• Arranges co-surgeons or assistants as needed and cross-schedules with other departments.
• Maintains pre-op procedures, including completing surgical documentation and obtaining medical clearances.
• Schedules pre-surgery appointments and follows up with test and pathology results.
• Ensures adherence to block time guidelines at each hospital.
• Coordinates postoperative care and obtains surgical billing information.
• Works with the coding department to obtain appropriate codes and posts and reconciles all surgical charges.
• Tracks all procedures and maintains accurate records.
• Provides excellent customer service, greeting patients and visitors promptly and assisting them with their needs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, with two years of related experience.
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
• Quick learning and adaptability in a changing environment.
• Preferred: Two years of progressive experience in a medical office, surgical coding knowledge (CPT and ICD-10), and CPR certification.

• Adapts work schedule to meet practice needs and works additional hours as requested.

• May provide cross coverage within the Physician Services Division.
• Participates in surgical service meetings held at the hospitals.
