Surgery Scheduler Patient Care Technician

About the role

Community Medical Center is hiring a full-time Surgery Scheduler/Patient Care Technician to provide administrative, clerical, and clinical support ensuring safe, efficient, and coordinated perioperative care. This role supports surgeons, anesthesia, nursing, and ancillary teams through the use of the Electronic Health Record (EHR), managing scheduling, documentation, pre-operative requirements, and communication with a strong focus on patient safety and experience.

Responsibilities

• Schedule procedures in EHR: enter, verify, and update surgical case information.
• Assist patients with coordination of pre-op and post-op appointments as needed.
• Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in compliance with HIPAA, including H&P’s, lab results, imaging, and medical clearances.
• Route results, documents, and messages to appropriate staff.
• Monitor work queues and messages to ensure timely follow-up.
• Coordinate with ancillary departments as needed.
• Perform general administrative duties including supply management.
• Support the surgical team by preparing rooms, readying patients, managing supplies, and maintaining sterility.
• Provide care to surgical patients within scope of practice, including taking vital signs, surgical site preparation (hair removal, pre-surgical scrub), and maintaining awareness of patient comfort and safety needs.

Requirements

• High school graduate or GED equivalent.
• Certified Nurse Aide preferred.
• BLS Certification required.
• Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy, attention to detail, good organizational skills, problem-solving skills, and initiative.
• Must be able to work flexible hours and beyond “normal” working hours when necessary.
• Ability to communicate respectfully and tactfully with physicians, hospital personnel, and patients.

Schedule

Full-time, 40 hours per week.
