Job Responsibilities
- Perform pre-registration function in conjunction with the office, OR, or preregistration department and/or surgery centers.
- Provide excellent customer service during phone calls to patients to obtain or verify demographic information, insurance information, and other required data.
- Verify eligibility of patient’s insurance and discuss the correct discrepancies with the patient at the time of preregistration.
- Communicate hospital policy on collection of patient’s out-of-pocket responsibility and inform patient of amount to be paid at the time prior to service.
- Provide patient with instructions relative to a scheduled appointment/procedure and answer customers' questions about their anticipated service.
- Discuss financial options available for payment of patient liability and refer patients to Financial Counselors for pre-collection or assistance in application for financial assistance programs.
- Maintain a high standard of accuracy in pre-registration to facilitate a smooth registration process for the patient upon arrival for service and final registration.
- Collects copays or coinsurances from insured patients and provide receipts when warranted.
- Answers telephones, screens and directs incoming calls and messages to the appropriate party according to organization policy.
- Generates surgical lists and communicates the schedules to the rest of the office, billing department, and providers in a timely manner.
- Maintains an accurate filing system for insurance eligibility lists and office forms related to the position.
- Follows up with no-shows or cancellations when appropriate. Also will confirm procedures with the patients in a timely manner prior as a reminder to the patient.
- Maintains an orderly, neat, and clean work area.
- Travel to other IPG offices when needed to cover when requested.
- Performs other tasks as requested.
General Tasks
- Cover office operations as needed.
- Adhere to IHPS Policies and procedures.
- Model appropriate customer services with patient, physicians, and employees.
- Aid the Provider by sending approved electronic prescriptions via the electronic health record.
Qualifications
- Minimum Education required: Must be a high school graduate. Business or medical secretarial graduate or equivalent preferred.
- Current CPR certification preferred.
- Knowledge Of: Modern operational methods germane to a medical practice; clerical equipment, operations, and processes; must have basic understanding of medical terms and abbreviations; usage of computer systems; various medical forms, reports, and processing methods; possess a fundamental knowledge of basic billing procedures; individuals working in front office must have a clear understanding of the confidentiality laws that govern the patient/physician relationship.
