Duties
- Schedules patient procedures to ensure efficient and accurate processing of information.
- This includes procedures in the operating room, GI lab, and arrangements during the procedure.
- Covers with anesthesia groups to confirm scheduling for coverage.
- Coordinates post-surgical appointments with doctors and performs all necessary tests.
- Informs patients and any relevant third party through instructions about “things to do” before and after surgeries.
- Takes reservations for surgeries and schedules a date based on the availability of the surgeon and the medical condition of patients.
- Orders patients’ test results and assesses information from the report to determine if a patient is ready for surgery.
- Creates a daily surgery schedule and surgical log for all departments concerned.
- Provides information and updates in regards to patients’ surgery schedules.
- Verifies insurance and authorization.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- Minimum three years’ experience in health care and at least one year experience in surgery scheduling procedures is preferred.
- Ability to work independently as well as function within a team; have a basic knowledge of surgery scheduling, receptionist and registration responsibilities; and must possess the ability to handle stress.
- General familiarity with medical terminology as it pertains to anatomy and surgical procedures for an operating room.
