About the role

The Surgery Scheduler supports the practice by scheduling all surgeries for the department and coordinating activities with the surgical team, hospital admissions, and OR. Ensures surgery ancillary coordination and OR capacity for physicians. Schedules office visits to optimize physician and advanced practice providers' clinic schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes positive relationships with patients by demonstrating knowledge of patient history, treating them with compassion, and responding to individual needs.
  • Communicates patient information to practice employees as appropriate and informs patients of care and follow-up.
  • Advises patients about office policies and procedures; returns patient phone calls as defined by the practice.
  • Receives surgery information from doctors and advises patients on doctor availability.
  • Obtains accurate insurance information for verification and pre-certification; assists patients with medical forms and verifies signatures on consents.
  • Processes patient/procedure history for both patient and surgeon; contacts OR to schedule surgery and arranges preadmission/radiology testing.
  • Relays surgery and testing information to patients; notifies necessary departments using pre-established communication channels.
  • Verifies patient insurance eligibility and coverage; completes insurance verification.
  • Completes required forms for internal and external departments; sends history, physical, and consents to the hospital per practice procedure.
  • Explains patient self-pay liability and consults with Billing Dept. to set up payment plans.
  • Accurately updates and distributes OR schedule to appropriate staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma (Required).
  • 1+ years of related medical office experience (Required).
  • 2+ years insurance verification experience in a healthcare setting (Preferred).
