Surgery Coordinator
About the role
The Surgery Coordinator at Atlantic Eye Institute is responsible for coordinating and educating patients about surgical services. Key duties include premium services conversion, surgery scheduling, paperwork management, and patient coordination. The position requires strong organizational, communication, and medical insurance knowledge.
Responsibilities
- Premium services conversion rate improvement
- Pre-op and postoperative patient counseling
- Scheduling and managing patient appointments
- Interacting with patients, physicians, and staff
- Verifying and processing patient insurance eligibility
- Coordinating and ensuring all necessary medical clearances
- Communicating with referring providers and scheduling post-operative visits
- Handling ancillary tasks such as follow-up communications, updating medical records, and training sessions
Requirements
- AAS/BA/BS degree or equivalent work experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Surgery Coordinator, preferably in ophthalmology
- Experience with EMR software, especially for ophthalmology
- Knowledge of contracted insurance plans and procedures
- Ability to work with Excel, Word, and medical software
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
- Travel to all office locations as needed
