Part-time PRN position at the Semmes Murphey Clinic Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). Hours are approximately 6:45 am – 3:00 pm, Monday to Friday; closed weekends and holidays. PRN requires a minimum of two shifts per pay period (biweekly) and availability on one Friday per month. PRN employees are not eligible for benefits.

About the role

Work closely with a comprehensive team to provide personalized patient care in pre- and post-operative and/or procedural settings.

Responsibilities

  • Documents nursing history and physical assessment for assigned patients.
  • Prepares rooms, sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies.
  • Maintains awareness of patient comfort and safety needs.
  • Takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal and assess patient condition.
  • Explains procedures and treatments to patients to gain cooperation, understanding, and allay apprehension.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques.
  • Initiates a patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by the physician and/or surgery center policy, including patient and family instruction.

Requirements

  • Minimum: Associate’s degree from an accredited school of nursing.
  • One (1) year of experience as an RN.
  • Active RN license in Tennessee or a compact state.
  • Current BLS certification.

Preferred: ACLS certification, prior Ambulatory Surgery Center experience.

Skills

  • Proficient computer skills to process, store, and retrieve health information; knowledge of data entry and coding software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word), electronic medical records (EMR), and medical practice software.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers.
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret verbal orders and directions.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with focused concentration and make frequent clinical judgments.
