About the role

Inova Fairfax Hospital Operating Room – Surgical Technologist 1 – Full Time, Monday‑Friday. Inova is consistently ranked as a national healthcare leader in safety, quality and patient experience and is a top employer in the D.C. metro area and the nation.

Responsibilities

• Assists the circulating nurse in implementing the perioperative plan of care to include patient positioning, confirmation/preparation of the operative site, updating physician preference card, care of operative specimens, and room turnover.
• Performs and/or provides scrub assistance during procedures that reflect an awareness of anatomy, necessary principles, skills, supplies, and adequate knowledge base.
• Identifies factors relative to the patient's age and developmental stage that must be considered during the surgical procedure.
• Assists with pulling cases and checks case carts for completeness, obtains supplies and equipment, and determines them to be in good working order before a case begins.
• Prepares the operating room by opening sterile supplies, instruments, and sutures based on the scheduled procedure and surgeon preference card.
• Exercises care in the operation and use of instruments/equipment and reports/follows the appropriate procedure for broken items.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: High School or GED
• Experience: None required
• Licensure: Registered Surgical Technologist – Upon Start; Registered in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Surgical Technologist at time of hire
• Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) upon start

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience: Level one (1) trauma experience.
• Experience: Surgical Technologist experience in Ortho, Trauma, Neuro, Robotics, Vascular preferred.
