Surfing at Pakarang Beach (Memories Beach Bar) | KHAO LAK – PHANG NGA
About the spot
Pakarang beach is located only 15 minutes drive north of Khao Lak town. It is a very long and quiet beach with very wide beachfront. The shallow part is gentle and perfect for first-timers and beginners, while paddling out further can provide bigger waves for intermediates and advanced surfers.
Surf conditions
The shallow ocean part stretches very far out, making the surf gentle and suitable for beginners. However, farther out, the waves become larger and more challenging for intermediate and advanced surfers.
Surf school and amenities
Better Surf Thailand offers solo and group surf lessons as well as board rentals at friendly rates. Lessons start with basic surfing and safety theory. The beach bar, Memories Beach Bar, provides delicious Thai food and refreshing drinks.
Best time to surf
The best time to surf is early in the morning from 7-11am and anytime from 4:30pm onwards. This minimizes the chance of getting a sunburn. Surfers can also enjoy the stunning sunset during these times.
Getting there
To reach Pakarang beach, take a 3km long gravel road with bumps and potholes, usually filled with water. Cars with low lips may not be ideal. Look for the yellow and orange surfboard at the entrance of the driveway.
