Supv. Patient Access (Surgical Hospital)
About the Role
Coordinate and supervise the daily operations of the Admission and Registration areas. Patient Access Associates are located in decentralized sites on and off campus. Key access functions include registrations, admissions, pre-registration, insurance verification, pre-authorization, collection of patient payments, and financial assessment for the EPCHD programs.
Activities involve direct supervision of associates regarding work schedules, training, evaluation, and discipline to ensure appropriate actions are taken for services rendered by the hospital. The department's goals are to provide excellent customer service, improve patient access to care, and generate optimal financial results. Responsible for the department's quality improvement program.
Responsibilities
- Supervise associates in work schedules, training, evaluation, and discipline.
- Ensure compliance with complex regulatory requirements from The Joint Commission, Medicare, and third-party payers.
- Maintain knowledge of healthcare financial procedures, including cash collection and training tools.
- Analyze and supervise using productivity and performance tools.
- Exercise sound judgment in unusual or stressful situations.
- Adapt and respond effectively to a constantly changing service environment.
- Lead team processes and problem-solving initiatives.
Requirements
- Three years of experience in insurance, managed care, private physician's office practice, or hospital registration setting.
- Two years of supervisory experience.
- High School Diploma or equivalent (Associate degree preferred).
- Bilingual English/Spanish required.
Skills
- Effective written and verbal communication.
- Experience in training/education related to registration systems.
- Ability to prioritize, multitask, delegate, and supervise effectively.
- Strong interpersonal abilities to work with hospital personnel, legal representatives, third-party payers, and patients.
- Proficiency in computer software programs and basic office equipment.
- Knowledge of healthcare financial procedures and cash collection techniques.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
