This position is onsite at the Clare Service Center located in Clare, MI. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify). This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship, including H-1B, TN, CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT.
About the Role
The Supervisor Electric Operations provides planning, direction, regulatory compliance, and oversight to assure completion of field construction, maintenance, service, and emergency work to Company Electric Transmission and Distribution facilities in a safe and cost-effective manner. Responsible for the oversight of a geographical area within a Consumers Energy territory, including all electric operations deliverables, LVD deliverables, and employee oversight.
Responsibilities
- Influences others outside of department area regarding policies, practices, and procedures, including design, scheduling, Fleet, Supply Chain, Facilities, and Damage Assessment.
- Manages and resolves escalated complaints.
- Inspects job sites to check on work progress, assures satisfactory completion, and plans new assignments.
- Prepares requisitions for operations and maintenance supplies, equipment, and materials, and supervises special projects.
- Ensures projects and departmental milestones are achieved within approved budgets.
- Accountable for work plan adherence and adjustments (resources, equipment, materials, etc.), coordinating with internal (Supply Chain, Fleet, Facilities, Engineering, CEM, Corporate Safety, Union Safety, Public Safety) and external customers (residential, commercial, industrial, and municipal).
- Leads Daily Operating Reviews and Cross Functional Weekly Operating Reviews.
- Authority for personnel actions including time sheet approval, Estimated Straight Time accounting, CDL Medical program compliance, administering apprenticeship program, annual required Health Safety Environmental (HSE) training, Policy and Procedural updates, Driver Vehicle Inspection Records adherence, and Automated employee roster callout system database (ARCOS) administration.
- Requests and reserves on-call and storm restoration resources, and manages Personal Protective Equipment acquisition, distribution, inspection, testing, and replacement.
- Oversees tool acquisition, distribution, replacement, and adherence.
- Approves third-party contract purchase orders (Hydrovac, Traffic Control, etc.).
- Oversees customer de-energizing agreements.
- Handles MPSC/CEO complaint investigation and resolution.
- Supervises team OM&C Bargaining unit employees.
- Ensures education and adherence to Corporate Safety Manual, Electric Methods and Procedures Manual, Electric Distribution Manual, MIOSHA standards, OSHA standards, DOT standards, Business Continuity Plans, Code of Conduct, and all Employee Policy and Process manuals.
- Manages grievance procedures, investigations (safety and disciplinary), and associated disciplinary recourse.
- Participates in Daily Operating Reviews, Weekly Operating Reviews, Monthly Operating Reviews, Rally Rooms, Problem Solving Events, Safety Health and Guidance Teams, Safety Culture Teams, Fix It Now Teams, Safety Grass Roots Teams, and Financial Programs.
- Understands company and departmental metrics/financials, creates and updates visual management, educates on Lean tools, identifies waste elimination opportunities, and follows through for cost savings and automation.
- Participates in on-call rotation for zone (average 12 weeks per year) and storm restoration (average 20 occasions per year), responds to emergent events 24/7, and manages the company’s High Load Response process, including adhering to MISO Conservative Operations Guidelines.
- Operates under general supervision, recommends changes to systems and facilities operation, responds to complaints, and prepares reports of completed job orders.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Knowledge of safe work practices and procedures, Work Methods Manual, and electric distribution operations and construction.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including leading change efforts.
- Technical knowledge in electric transmission, distribution, or metering gained through a technical field of study and/or related work experience.
- Presentation skills, including the ability to speak to a crowd and the public.
- Proficiency in storm processes and supporting computer systems (e.g., ARCOS, OMAR/Service Suite, ADMS, OMS, Outlook).
- Problem-solving and supervisory skills in a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment (negotiating, conflict resolution, employee development).
- Ability to transfer experience and knowledge and negotiate with local Union Leadership.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in a business, technical, or related field with two (2) or more years of related electrical or leadership experience, OR
- Associate Degree in a business, technical, or related field with four (4) or more years of related electrical or leadership experience, OR
- High School Diploma or GED with six (6) or more years of related electrical or leadership experience.
