Supporting Victims of Crime-Crisis Response Advocate
About the role
This unique volunteer experience provides valuable tools for navigating crisis and conflict by empowering and supporting survivors in the aftermath of abuse and trauma. Our volunteers often refer to their service with us as life changing. We are a small team of individuals from diverse backgrounds who embrace our mission of health, justice, and hope.
Responsibilities
- Assist survivors via a 24-hour support line that can be directed to volunteers at home
- Provide medical advocacy to victims in person at area hospitals upon request
- Offer information and referral services
- Engage in legal advocacy for survivors
- Provide crisis intervention and support
- Facilitate education and prevention programs
- Facilitate support groups for survivors
Requirements
The Sexual Assault and Family Trauma Center, a program of Lutheran Community Services Northwest, hosts Spokane's only Certified and Accredited Community Sexual Assault Program (CSAP). Our program provides the following services confidentially and free of charge:
- Information and referral
- Legal advocacy
- Crisis intervention & support
- Medical advocacy
- Education & prevention
- Support groups
Qualifications
We are seeking individuals who have:
- A strong desire to help others
- An ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations
- Able to maintain confidentiality
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Basic computer skills
Skills
Volunteers should possess:
- Excellent communication skills
- Empathy and compassion
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
- Knowledge of sexual assault and trauma
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends

Pay
No compensation is offered for this position.
Schedule
Volunteers are expected to commit to a one-year commitment of service and four evening or weekend shifts per month.
