Relief Victim Advocate
HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT
The Relief Advocate provides immediate phone, online, and in-person response and support to survivors of sexual assault and abuse during weekend, and other hours as approved. This includes coverage of the 24/7 helpline, in-person medical advocacy at local hospitals in Spokane County, and referrals to ongoing services.
This position involves extensive, independent contact with sexual assault victim-survivors, their families, and those who support them. This position fills weekend and after hours on-call shifts covering our 24-hour sexual assault helpline to provide remote support and advocacy over the phone that can be done from home and in-person accompaniment at hospitals when requested.
HOW YOU WILL BE A GREAT FIT
- Functional proficiency in working with Microsoft Office, email and navigating applications on cell phone or computer.
- HS diploma or equivalent required, bachelor's degree in human services preferred / relevant experience will be considered in place of degree
- Fluency in English, both spoken and written
- Professional oral and written communication skills
- Able to abstain from using or being under the influence of alcohol or drugs during your shift work and/or when formally representing the agency.
- Moves equipment/materials weighing up to 10 pounds
- Able to sit and stand for long periods in a hospital setting where limited seating or accommodation is available
- Able to maintain cell service to take phone calls for the duration of scheduled shifts
- Lives in Spokane and within a 1-hour commute to area emergency departments
- Able to travel between home and hospitals independently and reliably when requested (mileage and other direct transportation expenses are reimbursed for this position).
- Able to work with vulnerable adults and children by passing Office of Crime Victim Advocacy and Victims of Crime Act required background checks
- Valid driver’s license and proof of current, personal automobile insurance valid for Washington state
- Complete 30+ hours of sexual assault training (provided by LCSNW or other approved Advocacy Core training)
- Maintain 24 hours of OCVA approved ongoing training annually
- Attend advocacy meetings, case staffing and training as scheduled
- Complete all client and service paperwork and reporting, including releases, consent forms, and database entries, in a timely, thorough, and accurate manner in accordance with Advocacy Department Policies
- Submit all timesheets and requests for reimbursements to the Advocacy Department Supervisor in accordance with the predetermined deadlines/due dates
Schedule and Pay
The regular hourly pay range for this position is $24.06 to $36.09. Because this is primarily an on-call relief position, scheduled hours when you are available but are not called in to work will be paid at the on-call rate of $2.65 per hour. If you are called in and report to work, you will be paid your regular hourly rate for all hours worked.
