About the Role

The Rehabilitation Research and Training Center at Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking a Supported Employment Specialist. The specialist will assist individuals with disabilities in locating and maintaining competitive, integrated employment, develop business partnerships, and provide on‑site support to promote independence in the workplace. This field position serves Richmond and surrounding areas, and may require coverage of internship‑to‑employment projects in Richmond, Hanover, Henrico, Chesterfield, Hampton, Petersburg, or Newport News.

Responsibilities

  • Assist individuals with significant disabilities in finding and sustaining competitive, integrated employment.
  • Meet with businesses to develop relationships and partnerships that encourage hiring of people with disabilities.
  • Provide direct services and supports on job sites to help employees with disabilities achieve independence.
  • Customize services and supports to each individual’s needs, including work on evenings, nights, and weekends as required.
  • Build and maintain community connections throughout Richmond and surrounding counties.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Ability to work non‑traditional hours (weekends, holidays, nights) to meet employer and client needs.
  • Above‑average verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to build community partnerships and maintain professionalism.
  • Experience handling sensitive information with confidentiality.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in community, integrated, and competitive employment for individuals with disabilities.
  • Familiarity with Virginia businesses and community resources.

Pay

Salary range: $53,000 – $55,000.

Schedule

Full‑time, 40 hours per week. Position is exempt and requires flexibility to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. Fully onsite work arrangement.
