Role Summary
The role involves providing support to an adult with mental health and wellbeing needs to improve his physical health, emotional wellbeing, confidence, and social engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting with and accompanying the client to health-related appointments, including general health, weight management, and mental health appointments.
- Providing social support and encouragement to help engage in activities and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
- Building a positive and trusting relationship with the client, helping him feel comfortable, valued, and understood.
- Encouraging participation in hobbies and interests such as golf and fishing, which the client enjoys but can be hesitant to pursue independently.
- Supporting trips into town, community activities, and social interactions to reduce isolation and increase confidence.
- Offering gentle motivation and encouragement to help the client make positive choices that benefit both his physical and mental health.
Expected Duties
- Supporting the client to attend and engage with a range of activities that promote his health, wellbeing, independence, and quality of life.
- Accompanying the client to health, mental health, and wellbeing appointments, providing encouragement and support throughout.
- Supporting the client with trips out in the community, including visits to town, Sean’s Place, and other social or community-based activities.
- Helping the client build confidence to participate in hobbies and interests he enjoys, such as golf and fishing, and encouraging him to maintain and develop these activities.
- Embracing the client’s interests, such as completing crosswords and other leisure activities together, promoting social interaction and engagement.
- Encouraging and supporting good personal care routines, assisting where required, and helping the client maintain his independence.
- Preparing meals for the client and encouraging him to take an active role in cooking and making healthy lifestyle choices.
Person Specification
- Caring, patient, empathetic, and able to provide positive encouragement and motivation.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build a trusting, supportive relationship with the client, helping him to increase his confidence, independence, and engagement in daily activities.
- A positive attitude, reliability, and understanding of the importance of supporting both physical and mental wellbeing.
- A full driving licence and access to a vehicle would be highly desirable, as this would provide the client with greater flexibility and opportunities to participate in a wider range of activities, appointments, and community outings.
Additional Information
- An enhanced DBS check may be required before employment commences; this cost will be met by the employer.
- No preference to gender as no personal care is involved.
- We are a private household therefore we cannot provide sponsorship, so applicants must have full Right to Work in the UK.
