About the Role
The City of Fayetteville's Police Department is seeking a Supply Technician to perform a variety of clerical and semi-skilled duties related to stocking, issuance, and accountability of department supply, equipment, and uniform items. Responsibilities include ordering, receiving, storing, maintaining security, issuing, and proper disposal of various police equipment and uniforms.
Responsibilities
- Process requisitions for equipment, uniforms, general supplies, and related items submitted by Police Department personnel.
- Coordinate uniform fittings and equipment issuance to new officers; issue uniforms, equipment, and supplies to department personnel.
- Oversee turn-ins and maintain inventory of clothing, equipment, and supplies.
- Maintain adequate inventory of supplies and equipment to ensure efficient operations.
- Maintain purchase records for the department, including individual files; work with budget staff to monitor expenditures.
- Maintain Police Department forms; issue general orders and operating procedures; maintain related inventory and update entries into the computer.
- Provide staff support to the Police Department, including serving as backup for other positions as requested.
- Move office equipment, files, and other items within the department as needed.
- Coordinate activities with other internal departments or external agencies.
- Collect and maintain the state traffic citation books for control and accountability.
- Obtain quotes on inventory items and purchase equipment, uniforms, and supplies.
Requirements
- Any combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
- Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible experience in supply or materials management or related work.
- Training: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
- This position is subject to pre-employment polygraph and/or CVSA testing.
- From the time of closing, the selection process is anticipated to last approximately 4-6 weeks, including a panel interview and skills testing (e.g., keyboarding, MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook). The selected candidate will undergo a pre-employment drug screen, background investigation, driving history check, and polygraph/CVSA testing.
Special Requirements
- Candidates shall NOT have committed or been convicted of:
- A felony.
- A crime for which the punishment could have been imprisonment for more than two years.
- A crime or unlawful act defined as a "Class B misdemeanor" within the five-year period prior to the interview date.
- Four or more crimes or unlawful acts defined as "Class B misdemeanors" regardless of the date of conviction.
- A combination of four or more Class A or Class B misdemeanors regardless of the date.
- DWI within the last 3 years from the date of disposition.
- Marijuana use within the last 12 months of the interview date.
- Schedule 1, 2, or 3 drugs within the last 5 to 10 years.
- This position requires working a flexible schedule, including some evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift weights exceeding 50 pounds but not more than 80 pounds.

Eligibility begins on the 1st day of the month following 30 days of service.
- Employer-Paid Leave:
- Vacation Leave: Accrued from the first day of employment, based on years of service and scheduled hours.
- Sick Leave: Accrued from the first day of employment; full-time employees accrue 8 hours per month. Sick leave accumulates without limits and may count toward retirement service credit.
- Holidays: 12 paid holidays per year (13 if Christmas falls on a Wednesday).
- Bereavement Leave: 24 hours per calendar year for mourning or attending a funeral/memorial service of a family member.
- Retirement: Participation in the NC Local Governmental Employees’ Retirement System. Employees contribute 6% of gross salary on a tax-deferred basis. Membership begins upon employment for those working 20+ hours per week.
- Deferred Compensation Plans: Supplemental retirement savings programs (NC 401(k) and NC 457 plans) for employees working 20+ hours per week. The City contributes 4% of base salary to the NC 401(k) account.

- Death Benefit: $3,000 during the first year of contributing to the retirement system. After one year, the benefit is provided by the NC Retirement System (equal to the highest 12 months’ salary in a row, no less than $25,000 and no more than $50,000).
- Pay Periods: Bi-weekly pay (every other Friday). Benefit deductions are taken for 24 pay periods per year. Direct deposit is required.
