About the role

The British International School of Houston is located in Katy, Texas, just outside the Houston metro area. The school boasts a state‑of‑the‑art facility, one of the world’s most advanced campuses, and serves around 1,300 students from 67 nationalities each year. It follows the National Curriculum for England, IGCSE and the IB Diploma from Early Years Foundation Stage to Year 13, with a high proportion of graduates gaining places at top universities worldwide. The Science Department includes specialist teachers in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, providing learning across the natural sciences for students aged 11 to 18. The school is seeking an experienced Chemistry Teacher to work with Middle School (ages 9‑14) and High School (ages 15‑18) students. The ideal candidate should be able to teach general Sciences at Middle School level and have experience teaching IGCSE (or High School equivalent) Chemistry.

Responsibilities

• Teaching and Learning: Experience and skills to deliver high‑quality teaching of General Sciences at Middle School and Chemistry at IGCSE or equivalent; engaging and challenging student learning through questioning, discussion and proven pedagogical strategies; creating a culture of learning and managing behaviour to ensure a respectful, collaborative environment; participating in all aspects of the learning programme in line with school policy to support school growth and agreed learning objectives.
• Planning and Preparation: Setting clear learning intentions and educational outcomes; designing lesson plans, activities and assessments aligned to the school’s curriculum that engage students; conceptualising, planning and teaching well‑structured lessons and programmes that inspire and stretch students, encouraging ambition.

Qualifications And Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree with Teaching Qualification (PGCE, Qualified Teacher Status)
• Minimum 2 years teaching experience in Science/Chemistry
• IGCSE experience is desirable
• Good cross‑cultural, interpersonal and communication skills to interact with diverse nationalities and cultures
• Excellent analytical skills – with the passion and drive to demonstrate and quantify success
• Excellent time management skills and flexibility in dealing with multi‑functional tasks
