About the role

The British International School Houston is seeking an outstanding Supply/Cover Teacher to inspire, challenge, and support our students in our state-of-the-art, purpose-built school. You will lead student learning within our classrooms as part of a nurturing and vibrant curriculum, developing confident, skilled students who thrive in any situation. You will collaborate with colleagues on the development of a modern international Primary curriculum, supported by technology and strong teaching practice, ensuring great outcomes for all. Your role will involve inspiring our diverse students, fostering a love of learning, and creating cross-curricular links that enhance our educational offer.

Responsibilities

Wellbeing

Engagement and Interaction

  • Set high expectations for students, inspiring, motivating, and challenging them to achieve excellent progress and ambitious outcomes.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge and use of informal and formal assessment to refine practice and promote the highest outcomes.
  • Adapt and tailor teaching to the needs of individual students, considering child development stages to create a student-centric environment with independent learners.
  • Represent the school’s values in every interaction with students, parents, and colleagues, demonstrating integrity, ethics, and high standards of conduct.
  • Actively contribute beyond the classroom in the wider school community and act as an advocate for the school.

Teaching and Learning

  • Demonstrate well-developed knowledge of child development, subject specialism, and related pedagogy, including using Technology for Learning.
  • Experience with and knowledge of the English National Curriculum (ENC), International Primary Curriculum (IPC), Maths Mastery, and delivering a text-centered approach to English (CLPE).
  • Engage and challenge student learning through questioning, discussion techniques, and proven pedagogical strategies.
  • Respond to individual student needs and evaluate and track progress.
  • Create a culture of learning and manage student behavior to ensure an environment of respect and collaboration.
  • Participate in all aspects of our learning program in line with school policy.

Planning and Preparation

  • Set clear learning intentions and educational outcomes.
  • Design lesson plans, activities, and assessments aligned to the school’s curriculum that engage students.
  • Plan and teach well-structured lessons and programs that engage, inspire, and stretch students, encouraging ambition.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education.
  • Teaching Qualification (PGCE/QTS or equivalent).
  • Minimum 2 years of teaching experience in the Primary curriculum.
  • Good cross-cultural, interpersonal, and communication skills to interact with diverse nationalities and cultures.
  • Excellent analytical skills with a passion and drive to demonstrate and quantify success.
  • Excellent time management skills and flexibility in dealing with multi-functional tasks.
