Supervisory Safety and Occupational Health Specialist
Serves as the Supervisory Safety and Occupational Health Specialist and as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Site Coordinator.
Responsibilities
- Administers the Safety and Occupational Health program for organizations engaged in warehousing operations, transportation of materials, equipment repair, maintenance, and administrative areas.
- Develops and maintains site-specific VPP program documentation, reports, and continuous safety improvements.
- Works with safety staff, supervisors, union personnel, and Lean office staff to improve work processes that reflect VPP requirements.
- Stays current with changes in OSHA regulations and requirements.
- Exercises delegated managerial authority to plan, direct, coordinate, and oversee safety operations and occupational health program elements over subordinate workers.
- Provides advice, counsel, or instruction on both work and administrative matters.
- Applies safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements.
- Identifies and implements ways to eliminate or reduce significant bottlenecks and barriers to production and improvements to work operations.
- Analyzes or evaluates new and existing jobs, processes, products, or other systems to determine the existence, severity, probability, and outcome of hazards.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Tour of Duty: Set Schedule.
- Security Requirements: Non-Critical Sensitive with Secret Access.
- Appointment is subject to the completion of a favorable suitability or fitness determination; unfavorably adjudicated background checks will be grounds for removal.
- Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA): Exempt.
- Selective Service Requirement: Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.
- Supervisory Probation: Required.
- Completion of Supervisory Certification Program: Required.
- Bargaining Unit Status: No.
- Selectees are required to have a REAL ID or other acceptable identification documents to access certain federal facilities.

- You will be a Mission Essential employee, required to work during an emergency to ensure continuation of essential functions.
- This position and any future selections may be used to fill various shifts located within DLA Distribution Red River, TX.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain licenses and/or certifications required by the installation, federal, state, and local laws.

To qualify for a Supervisory Safety & Occupational Health Specialist, your resume and supporting documentation must support:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-12 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector.
Creditable specialized experience includes:
- Exercising delegated managerial authority to plan, direct, coordinate, and oversee safety operations and occupational health program elements over subordinate workers.
- Giving advice, counsel, or instruction on both work and administrative matters.
- Applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements.
- Identifying and implementing ways to eliminate or reduce significant bottlenecks and barriers to production and improvements to work operations.
- Analyzing or evaluating new and existing jobs, processes, products, or other systems to determine the existence, severity, probability, and outcome of hazards.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
Physical Demands
- The performance of duties requires standing, walking, climbing, crouching, stretching, and lifting of moderately heavy items such as storage containers.
- Carries a variety of instruments and monitoring equipment.
Work Environment
- During inspections, the Specialist is frequently exposed to operating machines and equipment, hazardous materials, high noise levels, dust, and fumes.
- Protective equipment and clothing may be required.
Education
Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
