About the role

The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) seeks a Term Supervisory Recreation Aid (NK-0189-2) not to exceed 6/1/2030 to work for Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC) in the 72 ABW, located at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This position is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and representing the activities of the Outdoor Recreation Aquatics function, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements and meeting customer needs.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, directs, and represents the activities of the Outdoor Recreation Aquatics function, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements and meeting customer needs.
  • Represents the aquatics function of the Outdoor Recreation section of the 72 FSS with a variety of installation and functional area organizations.
  • Establishes, develops, and maintains effective working relationships with higher ranking managers within the chain of command, personnel from on-base support units, off-base recreation/lifesaving/aquatics instruction personnel, and customers.
  • Maintains and updates policies and procedures for the aquatics activity.
  • Coordinates plans and schedules with other organization managers and customers as appropriate.
  • Identifies need for changes in priorities and takes action to implement such changes.
  • Assigns work to subordinate employees based on organization priorities and consideration of difficulty and requirements of assignments such that the experience, training, and abilities of staff are effectively utilized to meet organization and customer needs.
  • Balances workload and provides advice, guidance, and direction on a wide range of lifeguard, water safety, and administrative issues.
  • Structures assignments to create effective and economical positions.
  • Coordinates with other organization managers and customers as appropriate.
  • Performs self-inspection and presents detailed and comprehensive reports to leadership with any corrective action taken.

Requirements

  • Obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • May be required to possess a current, valid state driver license.
  • Applicant must have the following current certifications: Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguard Instructor, and CPR and First Aid Instructor.
  • Knowledge of goals, principles, methods, and techniques involved in operating a base aquatics program, to include health and safety requirements and child abuse identification, reporting, and prevention methods.
  • Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures associated with lifeguarding and lifesaving techniques.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of a small to medium-sized organization.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of resource management policies and principles sufficient to develop, coordinate, and manage a budget.
  • Knowledge of policies and practices sufficient to identify, requisition, control, and account for expendable supplies, equipment, and other assets assigned to the aquatics activity.
