Supervisory Physician (Chief Medical Officer/Flight Surgeon) (Direct Hire)

About the role

Serves as the Chief Medical Officer and Flight Surgeon at the Armstrong Flight Research Center (AFRC). In this capacity, the selectee will be responsible for providing Aerospace Medical support to NASA pilots and associated aircrew, and for managing the Center's overall Occupational Health Program. This position reports directly to the Director for Mission Support.

Responsibilities

• Provides Aerospace Medical support to NASA pilots and associated aircrew.
• Manages the Center's overall Occupational Health Program.
• Operates and manages the Reduced Oxygen Breathing Device used to train aircrew on the effects of hypoxia in flight.
• Serves as the local aeromedical waiver authority and Health and Medical Technical Authority on behalf of the Agency's Chief Health and Medical Officer.
• Manages operational and administrative functions for the Branch and makes recommendations and improvements to Branch processes; and manages personnel development and assign work; define technical work requirements and milestones.
• Serves as the Contracting Officer's Representative and managing the contract governing the Center's Occupational Health Services, including Medical, Industrial Hygiene, Health Physics, Fitness Center services.
• Serves as a member of the monthly NASA Chief Medical Officers Board (CMB).
• Performs a full range of supervisory duties which includes assigning and evaluating work; recommending personnel actions; taking disciplinary actions; and identifying training needs and developing employees.
