About the role

This position involves research into technical literature and government policy documents, coordination with division chiefs, and supervision of a team.

Responsibilities

• Research technical literature and government policy documents.
• Coordinate with Chief, Engineering Division, Chief, Master Planning Division, and Corps of Engineers to evaluate and document the impacts of all construction actions on the environment.
• Supervise and direct the work of the branch, which is staffed with 5-10 subordinates and 20 support contractors including environmental engineers, environmental protection specialists, and environmental protection assistants.
• Develop plans for and direct environmental compliance surveys and studies to evaluate degree of existing compliance with DPW staff, other government agencies, or contract personnel.

Requirements

This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of occasionally. Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights. This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management’s (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG).

The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below.

• Education: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in engineering or physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
• Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes:1) Experience applying concepts, techniques, practices, and principles of programs for environmental compliance and sustainability as required by Federal and State laws; AND 2) Experience developing and administering environmental budgets and work plans; AND 3) Experience managing a National Environment Policy Act compliance program.
