Apply now!!! 2026 Salary Range ($125,776 - $192,331) yearly w/ locality Job Open Date: 8/26/2026 Job Close Date: 9/2/2026 Who may apply: All U.S. Citizens The primary purpose of this position is to exercise second level supervisory and managerial authorities over the wing/center Inspector General (IG) Office. Serves as the Inspector General (IG), with responsibility to review and oversee Department of War (DoW, Air Force (AF), and wing/center programs to determine compliance with laws, guidelines, and objectives. Provides technical guidance, advisory support, policy, and direction for programs such as the Air Force Inspection System (AFIS); Complaints Resolution Program (CRP); Fraud, Waste, and Abuse (FWA) Program; Strategic Plans and Programs; and the Commander’s Inspection Program (CCIP). And to provide senior leaders/managers advice on effective and economical management of inspection and self-assessment practices; and to provide advice, training, and support to serviced organizations. Applies methodologies under the Air Force Inspection System (AFIS) with particular emphasis on inspection teams for the Commander’s Inspection Program (CCIP) and Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) to provide the unit/installation commander with accurate, continually updated assessment of assigned forces. Leverages technological tools such as the Inspector General Evaluation Management System (IGEMS) and Management Internal Control Toolset (MICT) to help assess the various processes and services provided by organizations in order to determine their state of discipline, effectiveness, efficiency, mission readiness, and resource utilization. Requirements: - Obtain & maintain a security clearance - May be required to travel to perform temporary duty - May have extended/other than normal duty hours - This position requires a high degree of discretion due to access to sensitive information - Master's degree or equivalent experience in public management, administration or criminal justice is desired but not mandatory - IAW AF guidance, incumbent must complete the Installation Inspector General Training Course (IGT) within 90 days of appointment - IG appointees for nuclear-capable units will complete the USAF Nuclear Inspector Course within 180 days of assignment. Successful completion of other courses will be accomplished IAW applicable DoW and AF regulations - Must complete the USAF Basic Inspectors Course for the Commanders Inspection Program within 90 days of assignment - This position is designated as a Testing Designated Position TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Testing Program. Knowledge of a wide range of complex inspection, investigation, enforcement, and/or compliance principles, concepts, and practices; as well as knowledge of Public Laws, Executive Orders, DoW Regulations, Air Force Instructions, administrative and legal procedures, and other decisions/standards related to agency activities and IG programs sufficient to conduct interviews, inspections, and investigations to analyze the nature of the complaint and specific issues to be addressed. 2. Knowledge of Air Force, MAJCOM, and installation program goals and objectives; IG functions, operations, policies, procedures, and practices; the sequence and timing of key operational events and milestones; and the relationship of various installation entities involved in overall program planning and execution of military operations and evaluations. 3. Knowledge of personnel management, EEO, and safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures. 4. Skill in assessing program needs to accomplish goals and objectives, evaluate program status, and recommend or implement solutions for improvement. 5. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization through subordinate supervisors; and to analyze, plan, and adjust work operations to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources. 6. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy, both orally and in writing; as well as using tact and diplomacy during difficult circumstances to advise/inform on complicated, sensitive, and occasionally controversial issues.
