Supervisory Health Scientist

This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Laboratory Systems and Response, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.

Responsibilities

• Developing, implementing, and issuing enterprise-wide laboratory safety policies, plans, and procedures.
• Interpreting and applying applicable Federal, state, and local requirements and national/international standards to ensure compliance and drive corrective actions.
• Providing consultation to senior leadership on biosafety, chemical safety, radiation safety, select agent compliance, BSL-4 high containment laboratories operations, and emergency response.
• Assessing program performance, identifying existing or potential problem areas, and directing necessary corrective actions or preventive measures.
• Representing the Office Director and the Agency at high-level meetings and conferences with federal partners, international organizations, and other governmental and non-governmental stakeholders on environment, safety, and health compliance matters.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program accredited by a body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Minimum Qualifications:

• One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service performing all the following duties:
