Supervisory Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner)

This position is located within the Chinle Service Unit, Division of Clinical Services and Urgent Care Services in Chinle, Arizona. Its purpose is to provide professional and technical supervision to Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants assigned to Emergency Department Pod B, and to deliver comprehensive medical care to pediatric and adult patients within a multidisciplinary healthcare facility. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).

Responsibilities

• Examines, diagnoses, treats, and refers lower-acuity emergency department patients, including obtaining health histories and performing physical examinations.
• Reviews medical records, orders diagnostic tests, develops treatment plans, provides medications and other therapeutic care, and documents patient care.
• Supervises Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants, including orientation, performance appraisal, competency assessment, credentialing, training, discipline, and leave approval.
• Supports provider staffing, workload management, performance improvement, and efficient delivery of high-quality urgent and emergency care.
• Promotes communication and cooperation among clinical, administrative, and support departments and participates in Medical Staff, departmental, training, and collaborative activities.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
• This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children. The agency must ensure that persons hired have not been found guilty of or pleaded nolo contendere or guilty to certain crimes.
• A one-year supervisory/managerial probationary period may be required upon selection/placement.
• The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. Failure to do so may result in adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties of the position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work.

• Basic Requirements:
  • Graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor’s degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program. The program must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • For foreign nursing school graduates: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required.
  • For Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) positions: Graduate or higher-level degree in nursing from an accredited program in the required specialty.
  • Passed the National Council Licensure Examination and possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • For APN positions: Licensed or registered in the clinical specialty required by the position.
• Minimum Qualifications:

  At least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service, performing the following:

  • Providing emergency clinical care through patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, diagnostic testing, referrals, and education.
  • Supervising Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants.
  • Managing provider performance and workforce activities.
  • Participating in clinical improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinating efficient, high-quality emergency services across clinical and administrative departments.

Education

This position has an education requirement. You must submit a copy of your transcripts or a list of courses including titles, credit hours completed, and grades. Only degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education may be credited. For foreign education, a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency must be provided.
