About the role
The Supervisor of Sterile Processing oversees the day-to-day operations of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD). Key responsibilities include scheduling employees, managing inventory, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, maintaining infection control data, and supporting operating room needs.
Responsibilities
- Maintains department standards to ensure compliance with all regulatory agency requirements (JCAHO/NJDOH).
- Maintains a safe environment by adhering to safety principles and practices, including universal precautions, electrical hazards, hazardous waste, positioning, and aseptic technique.
- Reviews and monitors daily environmental surveillance such as temperature and humidity, medical waste disposal, sterilization logs, and other duties as assigned.
- Participates on Infection Control Committee and Patient Safety Committee, and maintains data regarding infection control and patient safety.
- Functions as retractor/scope holder in OR as needed, communicates surgical case information, and ensures OR has required trays for scheduled cases.
- Improves job performance and creates new opportunities through participation in unit/department PI activities.
- Manages and supervises team members, establishes clear objectives, coaches, counsels, and evaluates performance.
- Tracks, analyzes, and reports on relevant data and metrics, and implements process improvements as needed.
- Develops and manages budget for assigned areas, monitors financial indicators, and modifies business activities in response to changing financial situations.
- Lifts a minimum of 30 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 50 lbs., and stands a minimum of length of shift.
Qualifications
- High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), or GED equivalent programs; 4 years of total experience in sterile processing at HMH, or 2 years of experience in sterile processing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPDT).
- Possession of a preferred certification as Certified SPD Supervisor.

Pay
Minimum rate of $79,601.60 annually. Compensation determined based on labor market data, experience, education, certifications, skills, geographic location, internal equity, and budget and grant funding.
