Purpose
The Central Service Supervisor supervises the Central Service function. Responsible for operations, quality of service provided, employee development, operating and capital budget accountability, and short/long-term planning. Prepares, maintains, and reprocesses sterile supplies and equipment.
Responsibilities
- Recommend interdepartmental and department policies and procedures on operations in areas of responsibility.
- Maintain a positive attitude during interactions with all hospital personnel, patients, and visitors.
- Monitor the completion of employee time cards and associated documentation.
- Maintain Operating Room linen within Central Service and deliver these linens along with O.R. basins to the O.R. as requested each day.
- Implement and maintain accurate position descriptions and performance standards for all subordinates; review job performance of each subordinate on an annual or as required basis and make recommendations to Manager concerning potential merit increments.
- Ensure all personnel are aware of hospital policies and procedures; enact disciplinary procedures when appropriate.
- Maintain accurate tracking system for all utilized equipment.
- Implement and interpret monthly activity data for Central Sterile functions; data highlights departmental performances, pinpoints problems, develops alternatives, and advises on significant trends.
- Serve as Central Service representative to the hospital user groups for all operations-related issues, including purchasing/rental issues and financial issues to ensure proper levels of service satisfaction.
- Repair all non-operational equipment immediately upon arrival into the department.
- Perform pick-ups of all soiled items, including lab glassware, general medical/surgical supplies, and equipment from the patient units for reprocessing.
- Select, evaluate, develop, motivate, and counsel subordinates.
- Clean and prepare all items for reprocessing.
- Assist in development and monitoring of operating and capital budgets in all areas of responsibility; prepare monthly budget variance reports which examine budgeted versus actual expenditures.
- Responsible for the batching/preparation of all unit charges and equipment vouchers daily.
- Make equipment rounds continuously per shift and deliver all serviced equipment to the Distribution Center.
- Keep the department in a clean and organized fashion, while following the appropriate aseptic techniques at all times.
- Maintain an awareness of any change in departmental procedures and policies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Supply Chain Management or related field and 1 years of related work experience required.
