Supervisor (Real Estate)
SVA is looking for a Supervisor to join our Real Estate Accounting team in Brookfield, WI. About the Role
The Supervisor is responsible for larger, more complex assurance and tax engagements for affordable housing and real estate clients, including Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) entities. This role involves directing engagements, acting as the main point of contact for clients, and developing junior staff. Supervisors review work papers, financial statements, and tax returns for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulatory requirements. They also develop expertise in LIHTC compliance, partnership taxation, affordable housing financial reporting, and related regulations.
Responsibilities
- Supervision and Leadership (50%)
- Assign work to staff based on their knowledge and capabilities.
- Train staff, provide guidance, and give constructive feedback on work papers in accordance with generally accepted standards.
- Review significant accounting or taxation matters with the In-Charge.
- Conduct timely and effective staff reviews.
- Lead team projects requiring input from multiple staff members.
- Promote diversity and inclusion by leveraging each team member’s unique background and contributions.
- Client Work (40%)
- Coordinate engagement phases, including staffing, planning, and scheduling with managers or principals.
- Lead and complete audits, reviews, tax returns, and compilations.
- Evaluate client internal controls and prepare or review work programs and time budgets to minimize tax obligations.
- Review financial statements, notes, schedules, management letters, and tax returns for client discussions.
- Prepare for, schedule, and lead client meetings.
- Assist with monthly billings as requested.
- Maintain client confidentiality and adhere to SVA policies and regulations.
- Work 55 hours/week during busy season (including weekends) and 40-45 hours/week during non-busy season.

Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field required.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years in public accounting, with experience serving affordable housing, real estate, and/or LIHTC clients preferred.
- Professional Certification: CPA preferred.
- Specialized Knowledge: Knowledge of partnership taxation, affordable housing, LIHTC compliance, and real estate financial reporting preferred.
