Supervisor (Real Estate)
SVA is looking for a Supervisor to join our Real Estate Accounting team in Madison, WI. This role offers the opportunity to refine your skills across several industries with an enhanced focus on Real Estate clients. You will engage in continuous learning, client-facing interactions, and mentorship of junior staff while collaborating with an accomplished and diverse team of professionals.
About the role
The Supervisor is responsible for larger, more complex assurance and tax engagements for affordable housing and real estate clients, including Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) entities. They have full responsibility for directing engagements and special assignments, acting as the main point of contact for clients. Supervisors develop expertise in LIHTC compliance, partnership taxation, affordable housing financial reporting, and related regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Supervision and Leadership (50%)
- Assign work to staff members based on their knowledge and capabilities.
- Participate in the training of staff members; offer guidance, direction, and constructive feedback on work papers.
- Review significant matters with the In-Charge that raise questions involving accounting or taxation principles or statement presentation.
- Conduct meaningful and effective staff reviews on a timely basis.
- Lead team projects requiring input and participation from multiple staff members.
- Leverage diversity and inclusion on the team by considering each person’s unique background and contributions.
- Client Work (40%)
- Coordinate the various phases of an engagement, including staff requirements, job planning, and scheduling with the manager or principal.
- Lead and complete all aspects of assigned audits, reviews, returns, and/or compilations.
- Study and evaluate the internal controls used by the client and prepare or review the work program and time budget.
- Review financial statements, notes, schedules, management letters, and tax returns for discussion with the client.
- Prepare for, schedule, and lead client meetings.
- Assist with monthly billings as requested.
- Maintain confidentiality with client information in accordance with laws and SVA policies.
- Ensure all duties are performed efficiently, typically requiring 55 hours/week during busy season (including weekends) and 40-45 hours/week during non-busy season.

Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field required.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience in public accounting required; experience serving affordable housing, real estate, and/or LIHTC clients preferred.
- Professional Certification: CPA preferred.
- Specialized knowledge: Knowledge of partnership taxation, affordable housing, LIHTC compliance, and real estate financial reporting preferred.
Schedule
- 55 hours/week during busy season (including weekends).
- 40-45 hours/week during non-busy season.
