About the Role
Leads an assigned production team to achieve goals and problem solve while demonstrating a commitment to employee safety, teamwork, and product quality. Responsible for product processing, packaging, and storage in compliance with FDA, USDA, and Simmons rules and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Leads a team of front-line employees, effectively communicating and motivating to drive productivity and achieve company goals.
- Supervises employees to maintain discipline, teamwork, and safety, ensuring daily production requirements are met.
- Handles scheduling, tracks attendance, and reviews and approves time off for direct reports.
- Responsible for work effort and appraisal of personnel.
- Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in processing and/or product development.
- Maintains inventory records and requisitions ingredients/supplies to meet delivery schedules.
- Evaluates materials and products to maintain organizational standards.
- Coordinates activities with other supervisors to align departmental efforts.
- Manages and utilizes production reports, reviewing daily production against customer requirements.
- Interprets and manages reports such as throughput and yield within the responsible area.
- Meets production requirements while maintaining line speeds, efficiency, and quality.
- Completes all required paperwork within established time frames.
- Promotes and enforces a safe work environment, complying with Simmons, OSHA, and government safety regulations.
- Fosters a continuous improvement culture, applying LEAN concepts to drive out waste and improve processes.
- Ensures quality performance meets or exceeds line, department, facility, company, and USDA/FDA guidelines.
- Collaborates with operations teams such as Human Resources, Safety, Maintenance, Quality Assurance, Finance, and Shipping.
- Manages employees by directing work activities, monitoring performance, and recommending compensation decisions.
- Screens, interviews, and hires candidates in collaboration with Human Resources.
- Administers disciplinary actions and recommends performance improvements.
- Develops and maintains favorable working relationships with all employees, promoting positive morale and productivity.
- Participates in team development, communication, and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies.
- Attends team meetings and fosters cohesiveness on major issues.
- Identifies areas lacking cohesiveness and works to resolve them with the team.
- Supports Simmons’ operating systems (e.g., quality, security, LEAN) and understands the role in maintaining these systems.
- Performs other duties as necessary to support business objectives.
Requirements
- Willingness to lead, take charge, and offer opinions and direction.
- Ability to read and write English.
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and cost management for effective manufacturing.
- Knowledge of business and management principles, including strategic planning, resource allocation, and leadership techniques.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and familiarity with computers.
- Preferred experience within a food processing organization.
- Bachelor’s Degree or 4 years of related work experience, including at least 1 year in a leading role.

- Communicates with customers, vendors, or employees via telephone, in person, or electronic mail.
- May present information to small or large groups.
- Able to work in various temperatures and move about in a manufacturing environment.
