Supervisor - Production

About the Role

The Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the production process while strictly adhering to all safety rules and regulations. This role involves motivating, coaching, and mentoring production employees, ensuring efficient department operations, and leveraging lean concepts to improve quality, delivery, cost, and variation reduction.

Responsibilities

• Manage the production process to achieve safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives.
• Train and develop associates to ensure efficient department operations.
• Use performance system tools and lean concepts to enhance manufacturability and reduce variation.
• Monitor performance against standards, document variances, and implement corrective actions.
• Perform supervisory activities, including recruitment, training, coaching, mentoring, and performance reviews.
• Recommend direct labor staffing requirements and manage labor schedules to optimize delivery and productivity.
• Serve as the focal point for daily production problems and provide technical support as needed.
• Enforce good manufacturing practices, safety policies, and 5S housekeeping standards.
• Coordinate the disposition of hazardous waste materials.
• Verify material availability and quantities for upcoming jobs.
• Conduct job closing for completed orders to ensure accurate charges.
• Assist in conducting physical inventories.
• Order production materials and supplies as needed.
• Maintain high housekeeping standards and a clean, organized work area.

Schedule

This position works 2nd shift with variable shift lengths based on production needs:

• 12-Hour Shifts: 3:00 PM – 3:00 AM
• 8-Hour Shifts: 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM

Candidates must be willing and able to work any and/or all shifts as required.

Requirements

• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree or 2+ years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
• High degree of initiative and motivation to achieve results.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work within cross-functional teams.
• Good problem-solving, observational, writing, and communication skills.
• Computer competence (proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, Kronos Workforce Ready, etc. is a plus).
• Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing tools and Standard Work implementation experience is a plus.
• Preferred union experience.
• Ability to motivate, coach, and mentor others.
• Effectively work with difficult team members and engage in crucial conversations.
• Professional communication with team members.
• Ability to train others, treat others fairly, and plan ahead.

Skills & Qualifications

• Ability to read, write, and perform basic math using a calculator.
• Ability to read a tape measure accurately.
• Basic computer skills (email and electronic documentation).
• Good hand-eye coordination.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work with limited supervision.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. multiple times per shift.
• Ability and willingness to complete powered industrial vehicle (PIV) training and certification, if required.
