Supervisor - Peer Recovery - MaineHealth Behavioral Health

About the role

The Peer Services Supervisor provides direct support to Maine Behavioral Healthcare (MBH) clients and oversees the supervision of Peer Support Specialists, Family Support Specialists, and Youth Support Specialists.

Responsibilities

• Identify as having lived experience related to the position and practice peer support.
• Supervise, manage workloads, and conduct group and one-on-one supervisions with local program managers.
• Resolve complex challenges with program managers and MBH leadership.
• Provide one-on-one peer support, group facilitation, and participate in local program teams.
• Support other peer services at MBH as needed, including travel and efficient navigation of technology.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in psychology, behavioral health, social work, special education, counseling, rehabilitation, nursing, or a closely related field (strongly preferred).
• Training and certification as an Intentional Peer Support Specialist, Recovery Coach, Parent Peer Support, or Youth training and certification.
• Valid driver’s license with liability insurance.
• 1+ years of experience in peer support roles, including group facilitation and one-on-one peer support.
• Experience in supervisory/management positions is preferred.
• A demonstrated commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Maine Behavioral Healthcare.
• A personal history of recovery and a wellness or change story guiding peer relationships.
• Relevant lived experience for specific roles (family support, substance use recovery).
• Sufficient understanding of mental health and general health practices.
• Strong interpersonal skills and broad-based computer skills.
• An ability to work in a flexible, multi-dimensional, and fast-paced environment.
• Ability to advocate and support change respectfully and inclusively.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a specialization in psychology, behavioral health, social work, special education, counseling, rehabilitation, nursing, or a closely related field.
• Licenses/Certifications: Training and subsequent certification as an Intentional Peer Support Specialist, Recovery Coach, Parent Peer Support, or Youth training and certification.
• Experience: 1+ years in a peer support role, 1+ years in group facilitation and/or one-on-one peer support, and some supervisory/management experience.
• Knowledge: Understanding of mental health and general health practices, appreciation for an integrated approach to healthcare delivery, and sufficient understanding of behavioral health systems in Maine.
• Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, broad-based computer skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work in a flexible, multi-dimensional, and fast-paced environment.
