About the role

The Operations Supervisor supports the Operations Manager in scheduling, logistics, team development, customer engagement, safety programs, process execution, and facility/boiler maintenance at Savage’s Morenci Transload and Transportation operations. This role involves loading HAZMAT Molten Sulphur from railcars to tractor-trailers.

Location: Safford, AZ

Responsibilities

  • Set an example of high integrity and fair treatment of others.
  • Utilize the Safety Specialist program to meet safety goals and develop future leaders.
  • Collect, verify, analyze, and distribute logistics and inventory information to management.
  • Serve as the primary point-of-contact for customer and driver inquiries, resolving concerns and discrepancies.
  • Adjust load schedules based on asset availability, driver headcount, and customer needs.
  • Monitor inventory levels and alert management and customers of potential issues.
  • Safely and efficiently manage the unloading of incoming Sulphur railcars.
  • Lead general maintenance and cleanup of the plant and equipment in Morenci, AZ.
  • Perform daily inspections of boilers, railcars, tractor-trailers, and equipment for safe operation.
  • Collaborate with other shift Supervisors on railcar/transfer preparation, including installing fittings, making hose connections, and maintaining steam, air, and water lines.
  • Conduct boiler maintenance, including soft water tests, chemical balance checks, blow downs, and general upkeep.
  • Work with the team lead to transfer liquid bulk chemicals from tank cars to tank trucks daily.
  • Assist in implementing and leading Safety, Health, and Environmental efforts to achieve “zero occurrences.”
  • Build and maintain strong customer and operator relationships, identifying ways to improve efficiency and service.
  • Support operations leadership through hiring phases, including screening, interviews, and onboarding.
  • Exhibit leadership in problem-solving and decision-making, both individually and in a team environment.
  • Collaborate with other shift Supervisors on daily facility maintenance and scheduled preventative maintenance.

Requirements

  • Willingness to work a rotational schedule based on operational needs.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience supervising or managing crews.
  • MSHA experience a plus but not required.
  • Prior experience in transloading bulk hazardous materials a plus but not required.
  • General maintenance or mechanic skills and repair experience (preferred).
  • Boiler experience (preferred).
  • Ability to learn all aspects of the transload process hands-on.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • General knowledge of transportation industry concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • 4-year degree a plus but not required.
  • Knowledge of computers and related hardware/software.
  • Willingness to study and learn new technical skills and techniques.

Physical Requirements

  • Good physical condition; ability to work outdoors alongside field personnel.
  • Climb stairs, ladders, and equipment; work on elevated surfaces.
  • Able to work outdoors year-round in all weather conditions.
  • Able to walk several miles per day, lift 50 lbs. without assistance, and perform climbing, stooping, and crawling.
  • Must pass a respirator fit test.
