Supervisor of Operational Planning
Overview
The Supervisor of Operational Planning supervises a team of highly qualified engineers providing technical and analytical engineering support for Reliability Coordination, Market Operations, Tariff Administration, and Scheduling functions. They coordinate analyses and studies both within SPP and inter-regionally, ensuring accurate and effective decision-making.
Core Responsibilities
Manage a team, evaluate candidates, establish schedules, conduct performance reviews, and develop budgets.
Ensure controls are in place for key processes, maintain records, and provide necessary tools for operations.
Support operational functions with data collection, report preparation, and issue resolution.
Coordinate with SPP Compliance, Customer Relations, Settlements, IT, and SPP members to resolve inquiries, issues, and disputes.
Contribute to special projects and represent SPP on NERC and SPP committees, subcommittees, working groups, and task forces.
Handle administrative office duties as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university or equivalent technical degree.
Master’s Degree in a related field is preferred.
6+ years significant experience, preferably in electric utility operations.
Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.
NERC Operator Certification preferred.
Other Requirements
Advanced knowledge of transmission system operations, NERC Reliability Standards, SPP Criteria, SPP Market Protocols, SPP Regional Tariff, SAS70 Modeling Controls, and SPP Change Control procedures.
Strong inter-personal and team-building skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to work with diverse individuals.
Competent skills with communication and data handling software such as Microsoft Office.
Ability to work overtime and handle emergencies, including extreme weather conditions.
Understanding of, compliance with, and enforcement of SPP Policies and Procedures.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position with a typical work schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Work hours may vary based on organizational and operational needs, as determined by management. Occasional extended or nonstandard hours may be required.
Travel Requirement
Moderate travel (approximately 20%) is required.
