Supervisor of Nurses (OTxHU) - CHS

About the role

New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (NYC Health + Hospitals) is seeking highly qualified health care professionals to staff the Outposted Therapeutic Housing Units (OTxHU) program. The OTxHU is a pioneering approach to safely increase access to high-quality clinical care for patients in custody who have complicated health conditions. It will be located in three NYC Health + Hospitals acute care facilities and will bridge the gap between care provided in the jails and inpatient hospitalization.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care as necessary, using SOAP format for progress notes.
• Assigns appropriate nursing staff for various patient care activities.
• Utilizes therapeutic communication skills and effective interviewing techniques to gather pertinent historical information and make appropriate referrals.
• Makes rounds to assess, plan, implement, document, and evaluate unit nursing care delivery.
• Communicates special care needs to relevant parties and ensures continuity of care across shifts.
• Evaluates and provides feedback to staff on an ongoing basis and in formal evaluations.
• Identifies staff development needs and plans strategies to meet those needs.
• Collaborates with the On-Site Director of Nursing in the orientation of new staff and evaluates their performance.
• Administers medication safely and efficiently, and participates in ongoing monitoring activities to ensure quality care.
• Contributes to the environment by maintaining supplies and equipment, observing security regulations, and promoting unit morale.
• Works in a clinic and infirmary environment, with constant standing, walking, frequent bending, lifting, and reaching.

Qualifications

• A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State.
• A valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association.
• Three (3) years of experience as a registered nurse.

Additional Salary Compensation

• An annual education differential based on possession of appropriate degrees in nursing or allied health disciplines.
• An annual certification differential for nationally recognized certifications.
• An annual nursing experience differential for up to 10 years of experience.
