Duties & Responsibilities
- Purpose of Position:
- Schedules, assigns, guides, directs and instructs professional and allied nursing personnel in nursing activities.
- Develops, implements and continuously evaluates the nursing regimen for assigned patients/clients.
- Records and maintains nursing care plans and progress notes on patients/clients to ensure continuity of care.
- Interprets and reports responses of patients/clients to appropriate members of the health team.
- Participates with interdisciplinary health team members to plan a comprehensive patient care program.
- Determines and assigns those components of the nursing regimen which may be carried out by allied nursing personnel.
- Provides teaching, guidance and direction to allied nursing personnel in rendering patient care.
- Participates in defining, implementing, maintaining and interpreting standards of nursing practice.
- Participates in departmental and interdisciplinary conferences pertaining to policies and procedures affecting nursing practice.
- Participates in determining conditions, resources and policies essential to the delivery of nursing care services.
- Participates in development and maintenance of a system of evaluation of nursing care, practices and procedures, including evaluation of nursing personnel.
- Interprets philosophy and objectives of agency and Nursing Department to patients/clients, families and other groups.
- Maintains professional competence through participation in continuing education and other appropriate learning experiences.
- Performs other professional nursing activities as delegated by nursing service administration.
- Careers in Coordination, Guidance and Direction:
- Coordinates, guides and directs the development, implementation and continuous evaluation of the nursing regimen for patients/clients within the clinical service.
- Guides, coordinates and directs the development and maintenance of a system of evaluation of nursing care, practices and procedures, including evaluation of nursing personnel within the clinical service.
- Defines, implements and maintains standards of nursing practice and evaluates the quality of nursing care rendered within the clinical service.
- Reviews and analyzes trends pertinent to delivery of nursing care services within the clinical service and initiates appropriate innovations or makes recommendations for needed changes in support of patient experience and continuity of care.
- When assigned to continuing education for Nursing Service, develops, plans and assists in the preparation, implementation and evaluation of training and educational activities for nursing practitioners and allied nursing personnel.
Minimum Qualifications
- A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State;
- Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA);
- Three (3) years of experience as a registered nurse.

Additional Salary Compensation
- An annual education differential if you currently possess an appropriate degree in nursing or an allied health discipline from an accredited college or university, as listed below:
- Bachelors in allied health discipline = $900
- Masters in allied health discipline = $1,200
- Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) = $1,800
- Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) = $2,000
- Doctorate in Education, Nursing Practice or PhD in Nursing (DNP) = $2,500
- An annual certification differential ranging from $1,878 up to $4,878 if you currently hold appropriate certifications that are nationally recognized in the discipline or area of specialization for which you are employed.
- An annual nursing experience differential ranging from $1,097 up to $9,100 for up to 10 years of experience if you have outside nursing experience as a Supervisor of Nurses.
