About the role
NYC Parks is seeking a Supervisor of Mechanics to oversee maintenance and repair activities across the city's vast network of parks and recreational facilities.
Responsibilities
- Supervise the maintenance, alteration, repair, erection and dismantling of structures and equipment pertinent to departmental operations.
- Review and assist in the development of Project Work Orders with Citywide Project Managers.
- Assist in the development of project plans that include cost estimates including material, equipment and labor costs based upon plans, specifications and/or plans provided by Citywide Project Managers.
- Purchase materials and equipment to avoid cost and schedule overruns.
- Schedule multiple trades and prepare work schedules and assignments.
- Manage and supervise the work of skilled craftsmen, helpers and other assigned staff to ensure product quality, timeline and site safety meet standards.
- Ensure all administrative tasks are entered into the Parks Asset Management Parks System (AMPS) as per Parks guidelines.
- Maintain basic records and prepare reports.
- Open, assign, close and follow-up on the status of work orders in the Asset Management Parks System (AMPS).
- Approve all staff timesheets using City-time.
- Communicate with Senior and Field Management to ensure that priorities are correctly established.
Requirements
- Seven years of recent, full-time, satisfactory experience in a pertinent craftsman title, at least two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or a satisfactory equivalent.
- A valid New York State driver license.
- Strong supervisory, customer service and technical skills.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of people.
- Site work project experience including demolition, color seal coat installation, safety surface repairs, fencing repairs, bench replacement and play equipment repairs.
Qualifications
- Qualified under the 55-a Program for persons with a disability.
Skills
