About the role
The Supervisor of Line of Road manages rail maintenance, repair, track inspections, and personnel with a "Safety First" focus.
Responsibilities
- Manage engineering operations as outlined in FEC’s operating plan
- Supervise and manage the activities of track gangs, track inspectors, and hyrail operations
- Ensure compliance with safe work procedures, FRA guidelines, and FEC policies and procedures
- Lead people with clear direction and goals while providing coaching and guidance through regular monitoring of employee performance
- Apply collective bargaining agreements and policies, including managing and coaching employees, conducting investigations, recommending corrective action, and responding to grievances
- Manage budgets and workforce productivity within FEC policy
- Clearly communicate track condition, daily production, and information to senior management for adjustments
- Participate in activities related to derailments and service disruptions, working with transportation and mechanical teams to determine cause and future prevention
- Perform other duties or tasks as assigned by manager
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED
- Relevant work experience in similar working conditions or regulatory/safety environment
- Must be 18 years of age
- Valid driver’s license
- Demonstrated history/experience in safety compliance
- Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 5 years combined experience as a Track Foreman supervising maintenance gangs
- FRA Track Safety Standards Part 213 Subpart A to F and G
- Experience managing budgets
- Previous experience supervising a unionized workforce
- Labor relations experience, including interpretation of collective bargaining agreements, response to grievances, negotiations with union representatives, and discipline
- Training or certification in Railroad Operating Signals
- Post-secondary education

Working Conditions
- Work hours may vary in length and schedule (may include a non-standard workweek)
- Combination of office work and working outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions
- Respond to unexpected or emergency situations
- Lift up to 80 lbs
- Travel required
